Panini America’s 2017-2018 NBA Hoops tips off just in time for the beginning of this year’s pro basketball season. Set for an Oct. 25 release, a hobby box will contain 24 packs per box, with eight cards per pack. For big spenders, there are 20 boxes per case. Panini is promising two autographs per hobby box and 24 inserts or parallels.
Base set
This year’s product will set the stage for the rookie cards of players such as Lonzo Ball, Jayson Tatum and Markelle Fultz. There also will be other notable names from the 2017 NBA Draft. The base set also will include parallels for collectors to chase, including Artist Proof, Artist Proof Black, and Gold.
For collectors who enjoy a trip to the local superstore like Target or Walmart, there will be retail-specific parallels to chase. They include blaster parallels in blue and red (numbered to 49); Teal Explosion and Orange Explosion (numbered to 75) in fat packs; Teal Explosion (numbered to 125), Blue (75), Orange (25) and Red Checkerboard (15).
Autographs and relics
Autographs will be spaced between hobby and retail packs. Hobby exclusives will include Hot Signatures and Hot Signatures Rookies autographs, plus Red Hot Signatures for both subsets, numbered to 25. Retail autos will be found in the Great SIGnificance set, with Gold parallel cards numbered to 10.
Relics will be found in blaster packs at retail outlets. Rise N Shine Memorabilia and Rookie Remembrance will be retail-exclusive cards. Each will have Prime parallels numbered to 25 or less.
Inserts
Insert sets will be highlighted by a 10-card, Kobe Bryant Career Tribute, which will focus on the great career moments of the Lakers’ star. Road to the Finals will focus on defining moments during the postseason, and a card featuring Finals MVP Kevin Durant will be numbered to 99.
Other inserts include hobby-exclusive Back Stage Pass, Courtside, Special Delivery and We Got Next. Parallels to each will be called Artist Proof and will be numbered to 25.
There will be inserts available only at retail outlets, too. including Class of 2017; Faces of the Future; Lights, Camera Action; Swat Team; and Zero Gravity.
